THE FARM:
~The Preserve will be open to the public Tuesdays-Thursdays during the summer months.
~ The Preserve will operate a Wild Horse Village for visitors to enjoy as part of the educational program.
~The Preserve will offer a DVD designed to help people understand where the wild horses are located and how to find them.
~The Preserve will offer Farm tours to let visitors understand what is involved in running the farm and Preserve.
~The Preserve will offer hand-led pony rides. In the future, we hope to offer Wild Horse Trail rides for visitors.
~The Preserve will offer guided trips to nearby wild horse locations.
~The Preserve will offer therapeutic programs for people with disabilities.
Hours: Tuesday 4-8 pm
Wednesday 4-8 pm
Thursday 4-8 pm
We are also open by appointment throughout the year for group visits and special events.
Entrance fees: $10 for adults,
$ 5 for children (ages 3-12),
Children under 3 Free.
Includes self-guided touring of the Wild Horse Village and Horse Paddocks, attendance to any of the hourly educational presentations held in the Village, and site Hayrides.
Additional activity Fees: Hand-led pony rides $5,
Pony Train Rides $3.
Farm Tour Minimum donation $50 (by appointment only)
Grayce Wynds Farm is a no smoking facility. No open-toed footwear allowed on premises. Children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times. Any problems should be reported to farm personnel immediately. Liability waivers must be signed (North Carolina legislation places liability on participants due to inherent risks of farms and equine activities). Do not feed any horses. Bug spray is recommended.
Note: Admission charges are tax-deductible. All monies raised by the non-profit will go to support the daily operations of the preserve and will be used to expand programs. In the case of excess funds, the board will award grants to those groups who directly support the wild horses: the Assateague Island Alliance, the Chincoteague Pony Rescue, the Wilburn Ridge Pony Association, the Corolla Wild Horse Fund, Cape Hatteras National Seashore, the Foundation for Shackleford Horses, Friends of the Rachel Carson Reserve, and the Georgia Conservancy (projects for Cumberland Island).
Weekly Guided Field Trips to Rachael Carson Preserve (about 2.5 hr drive) to view wild horses in their natural habitat.
Thursdays - All day trip (approximately 8 hrs)
Fee: $75 pp which includes transportation, shuttle cost to Preserve and guide. Lunch will be additional.
