Ember Sponsorship

Ember

Birthday:  Unknown
Sire:  Unknown
Dam:  Unknown

Acquired:  Adopted by the Kentucky Humane Society Equine Division at no charge in 2019
Coloring:  Ember presents as a “black” horse but she really could be called a dark chestnut because she fades out at certain times of the year to a dark brown coat
Temperament:  Sweet, calm, extremely shy

Facts:  Ember gave birth to a colt 1 week after she arrived here in February.  We named him“Blue” because he was so black that he looked blueish.  Kentucky is known for its bluegrass, too. Ember was identified as the lowest ranking horse in her herd of eleven. Her herd discovered a man’s hayfield in Kentucky which prompted their removal. The owner threatened to kill them unless the KHS wanted to preserve them. The KHS paid for Ember to be shipped to us. She arrived at 2am on a misty, drizzly night. When released, she disappeared into the darkness. To this day, Ember will not approach people. She moves away when approached. This was her pattern out in the wild. When you approach a horse, horses like Ember often believe that you are asking them to move by the pressure of your action. She is more timid than fearful. In the past, she has responded to clicker training when kept in a confined area.
